If there is one genre that seems to be completely vacant from the Midlands, it is without a doubt deep and minimal dubstep. Since moving to Birmingham, the nights are few and far between, and any dedicated bass-weight evenings have troubles and rarely survive the first few months. The lads over at Origins have been attempting to set this straight, and in the past sixth months, alongside some fantastic Drum & Bass lineups, have brought both Biome and Benton to the Birmingham crowds.
Now they’re branching out into unchartered territory, and are bringing one of the biggest names in bass music to a small, intimate venue in the suburbs. Kahn produces such a huge variety of music, it would be both wrong and difficult to relate him specifically to any genre, with releases on Box Clever, Deep Medi and his own joint-owned grime label Bandulu records, his back catalogue represents his desire for variety. From dark and weighty dubstep all the way to high energy grime instrumentals, Kahn does it all and he does it extremely well. He also recently began live-producing Dub alongside Neek, proving his thirst for music knows no bounds. Origins have treated us to not one, but two hours from this master of all crafts, so make sure you don’t miss it.
Support on the night is coming from a medley of locals all providing deeper sounds. K1 and Justify will be bringing the 140, expect bangers from the word go, with a few surprises along the way. Goosensei from Flavour and Shelter’s Elkie & Sprite will suit the more alternate fans, with a mash of garage and half-step that will have your feet shuffling.
Make sure you don’t just check out this event, find Origins on facebook for all the up to date information on their events and movements in the music scene!
